Who owns the company?

The official company registered as L.S. Apthorpe & Family Funeral Directors Pty Limited was established in the year 2000 by Luke Samuel Apthorpe at the age of 20. The initials (L.S.) representing “Luke Samuel” were later replaced with “Luke” which is now seen in the trading name “Luke Apthorpe & Family Funeral Directors”, “Luke Apthorpe Monumental & Stone” and “Luke Apthorpe À La Mode Floral Boutique”. The name “Luke Apthorpe” has become a brand that people trust and rely on.

We hope this helps clarify the facts for those who have been mislead.

Luke's funeral industry experience

Luke began working in the funeral industry at the age of 16 in the Cessnock Community, and later worked in Broadmeadow before starting his own funeral home in Kurri Kurri. Luke has acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience in the funeral industry. He is respected and works well alongside many other Funeral Directors.

Professional education and training undertaken by Luke has fostered additional skills and expertise that clearly benefit client families although they may not realise it at the time. Luke has studied many courses in Sydney ranging from Advanced Mortuary Skills & Restorative Art through to Grief and Loss

In 2008, Luke travelled to the Republic of Cameroon in West Africa as part of the Blakes International Emergency Response Team, where he assisted with the Kenya Airways crash, and assist with the repatriation of the 105 passengers back to 29 different countries.

In 2013, Luke Apthorpe was been elected to the NSW/ACT Divisional Council of the Australian Funeral Directors Association (AFDA). Luke is honoured to have been elected by his peers and is looking forward to representing the AFDA in the Newcastle and Hunter Valley region.

In 2016-2017 Luke continues representing the AFDA NSW/ACT Divisional Council.
